Are liberals mentally ill? And the leftist/gnostic view of the Tower of Babel

In the still continuing thread on gnosticism, “We are seeing liberalism morph into totalitarianism,” a commenter wonders if liberal gnostics are mentally ill, and I reply, attempting to explain the basics of the gnostic world view.

Also, I have another exchange with Ken Hechtman, who keeps spelling out leftist/gnostic beliefs in stunningly clear terms—which, needless to say, leftists rarely do. Here he tells how in his college days he came up with the classic gnostic/Marxian interpretation of the Tower of Babel story.

Update: see Richard O.’s response to Ken Hechtman.
