“Liberalism”—as valid as ever

On Monday afternoon I was talking with three conservative friends who said that the word “liberalism” ought to be dropped or downplayed because it’s too ambiguous and hackneyed and can’t convey real meaning. I disagreed with them.

By happy coincidence, tonight at Oz Conservative Mark Richardson has a terrific article showing once again that far from being an outdated or fuzzy term, “liberalism” is indeed the correct and precise word—used by liberals themselves—for the ruling ideology of our time, the belief in the radically autonomous self, and its corollary, radical non-discrimination.

I’ve also posted a couple of comments there.
