Obama administration insufficiently PC

I just realized that the Obama administration has put itself in hot water with the EU. Even as Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has replaced the word “terrorism” with “man-caused disasters,” in order, she explains, to “move away from the politics of fear,” the EU has decreed that the term “man-made” must be replaced by “synthetic” or “artificial.” Therefore, to get rid of the verboten term “man,” the Obama administration will have to call terrorist attacks “synthetic disasters” or “artificial disasters.” It is to be hoped that public-spirited citizens will alert Secretary Napolitano as to these needed further changes in our language.

Also, it is a shame that these terminological alterations had not been instituted prior to September 11, 2001. Then, when the second plane came like an angel of death and sliced into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, instead of the American people saying in unison, “It’s a terrorist attack!”, and thus feeding the politics of fear, along with the resulting ethnic stereotyping, exclusionary hysteria and hate-attacks on Muslims that spread through the land, they would have said, “It’s an artificial disaster.” That is the way a mature people deals with the complexities of modern life.

She can replace “man-made disaster” by “human-made disaster,” and immediately start to fight … Global Warming.

By the way, isn’t that Global warming a substitute problem which is supposed to replace in peoples’ minds the real problem of terrorism?
