Man standing on queue in London store killed with a single blow in “mistaken” attack

(Note: the reason I put the words “mistaken” attack and “wrong” man in scare quotes is to undercut the assumption that the attack was worse because the “wrong” man was killed. Whether the intended victim or someone else was killed, it was a gratuitous act of savagery. The intended victim would not have “deserved” to be killed any more than the unintended victim deserved it.)

Here is a story that captures the unutterable decadence of Britain. In a London store, a white female heroin addict and career thief, Antonette Richardson, got into an argument with a white man, Adam Prendergast, on a queue. She telephoned her black boyfriend and partner in crime, Tony Virasami, at their home and told him to come and punish the man for her. Virasami came immediately to the store and charged in, but instead of going after Prendergast, attacked the “wrong” man, Kevin Tripp, hitting him once with what witnesses described as a mighty blow to the face and knocking him to the ground, causing injuries from which Tripp later died. While Virasami was attacking Tripp, and even after Tripp was lying on the floor unconscious, Richardson kept pointing to the “correct” victim, Prendergast, and telling Virasami to hit him instead, but Prendergast escaped. It’s all on camera, the Mail has photographs going through the entire incident step by step. Virasami had been previously convicted for theft and assault, but was still free. Also, the slain man, Kevin Tripp, had a black female “partner;” with whom he had a five year old daughter. So, among other bizarre elements in this crime, a couple consisting of a black man and a white woman caused the death of a white man living with a black woman.

Perhaps, in keeping with today’s fashion in crime-speak, we ought to describe this crime as a “manslaughter gone wrong.”

But really, there is no easy way to sum up the meaning of the incident. It has everything … in a manner of speaking.
