What to do about the prisoners at Guantanamo

Want to get an idea of the intellectual seriousness of liberals on the Guantanamo problem? See the exchange of views at Politico’s The Arena. It must be said, however, that no matter how irresponsible and ridiculous the liberals are on the issue, the pro-Guantanamo side has never laid out its bottom line. Are these prisoners to stay at Guantanamo for life? Until they’re too old to fight? While the Bush administration was, I believe, doing what was necessary vis a vis the prisoners, it never offered an overall explanation and rationale for the policy, leaving itself looking sneaky, guilty, and stupid. Which reminds me: if at any time in the next 40 years any person with the surname Bush expresses an interest in running for president, he should be … I was about to say tarred and feathered, but let’s change that to: he should be locked up at Guantanamo until he’s too old to be president.
