No bean counting for Obama!

The latest Obamanation, reported by Jonathan Martin at Politico:

Obama faces less pressure for diverse Cabinet

… Put in political terms, does our first African-American president, elected with a rainbow coalition, have more of an imperative to appoint an administration that includes minorities in high-ranking positions? Not really, is the answer supplied by a group of prominent African-Americans. Having a team of varied faces is preferable and in keeping with Obama’s pledge to represent all Americans—but these veteran black politicians and public officials say the president-elect should tap into the best talent available without taking a head-counting approach, in which slots are determined by demographics and symbolism trumps substance.

Gee, I guess that means affirmative action, racial set-asides, etc., are all over now? LOL!

LA replies:

See how much more fun an Obama presidency will be than a McCain?

Note: For younger readers, the title of this entry refers to a remark made by President Clinton early in his presidency, or perhaps just before the start of his presidency. He had set about creating the most diverse cabinet ever, and then, right in the middle of the selection process, as though he weren’t the one who had set it in motion, he complained about all the “bean-counting” that was going on to reach the correct amount and type of diversity.
