Obama: a reconciler, not a radical?

With all the conservative articles predicting that an Obama presidency will mean the end of the Republic, here’s a column with a more hopeful angle on Obama, that his main political instinct is not as a radical, but as a conciliator between different views—the Obama of the Harvard Law Review. It’s by Michael Gerson, the crazed universalist liberal and former chief Bush speech writer who, as far as I’m concerned, had never written a worthwhile column before this. But Gerson makes a plausible point here that fits much of what we know about Obama.
