Obama was listed as a member of, and was endorsed by, a socialist party in 1996

As brought out by Powerline, during the 1996 Illinois State Senate campaign, the Chicago New Party, a creation of the Democratic Socialists of America, claimed Barack Obama as a member of the New Party, and he was also so identified by the Progressive Populist magazine.
