Negro crime in 1958: Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose

Jeremy G. writes:

We know that liberals never learn when it comes to recognizing profound differences and incompatibilities between groups. But it still amazes me to consider how little the arguments of liberals have changed over the past 50 years. Take a look at this Time magazine article, published in 1958, on “The Negro Crime rate,” linked to and discussed over at American Renaissance. In the article, the blame for black crime is placed squarely upon white shoulders.

It’s also surprising that white resistance to liberal views on race has not changed very much either. An interesting book I read by Carleton Putnam revealed that essentially the same arguments were made against egalitarianism as Jared Taylor makes today. These arguments were not accepted by whites in the North, although they were readily accepted by large numbers of whites in the South at the time.

LA replies:

Thanks to Jeremy for reminding me of the Time magazine article, which someone else pointed me to the other day but I didn’t get around to posting. It is remarkable. Even the rate of black violence as compared to that of other groups was the same in 1958 as today.

Anyone who wishes to read Carleton Putnam’s Race and Reason right now (me, for instance) may find it in PDF format here . I’m printing it out as I type this.
