I am writing simply to point out that in your post about the Normandy landings, you refer to Spencer Warren’s “thoughts about a tour of Obama Beach”. I know you didn’t mean that, and I am sure others will have written you by now pointing out the error. But I cannot simply stand by and let THAT name be associated in any way with an event and place that represent everything of which he is the cancellation. I use the word “cancellation” in response to his laughable claim that various wonderful things like receding oceans and healing the sick only “began” with his clinching the Democratic Party nomination for President. It would be more accurate to say that many truly wonderful things have ended with that event. So…”cancellation”. (Why was Obama not immediately laughed out of the campaign for those comments?)
Well, you could have simply pointed out my typo. ;-)
In fact, I made that typo twice, in the poem in the subsequent entry, and in the preceding entry which you mention. Someone pointed out the other error a while ago, and I fixed it. I didn’t realize I had made it twice.
But your thought about Obama Beach is pretty funny. At Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944, the Nazis began to be rolled back. At Obama Beach, June 3, 2008, the oceans began to be rolled back.
I see a campaign video in this! :-)
Obama, standing on the shoreline, raising his hand, and the ocean begins to recede, and the grateful people begin to return to the threatened coastlands.
(With apologies to Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
Scene: a medieval town, captioned AMERICA ONE WEEK AGO. Carts piled with corpses, bells ringing and shouts of “Bring out your dead!” One of the “corpses” raises his head and says, “I’m all right now!” One of the cart drivers is about to wallop him with a hammer. OBAMA enters from the right, hand raised. Cart driver (who is white, needless to say) drops the hammer and stares. OBAMA turns to the camera, smiling, smiling, smiling. And says, “WE BEGIN TO HEAL THE SICK.” End caption: AT LONG LAST, HISTORY HAS FINALLY BEGUN.
I don’t know. I have this sudden urge to make some mash-up videos and put them up on YouTube. Thank you for the deeply disturbing image that helped fuel these thoughts. :-)

The oceans will subside, the waves shall retreat. And the king, er, I mean the president shall be named Barack Hussein Canute Obama.

Here is yet another idea for an Obama fantasy youtube video.

Picture the sword of racism plunged deeply into the heart of a mortally wounded and bleeding Lady America, a pathetic and sorrowful figure gasping on the ground. Heretofore no one has been able to remove the deeply embedded sword from the dying and pathetic figure. Men from the past, such as Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and even Bill Clinton are seen standing powerless over Lady America—when all of a sudden from the far left of the screen appears the image of Sir Obama riding on his majestic black and white steed. Without a moment of hesitation, Sir Obama dismounts and in one motion removes the sword from Lady America, who immediately arises and embraces her hero, while placing a crown upon his head.
