This sheeplike Isle

The black “equality chief” of Britain, Trevor Phillips, complains that the prohibition on debate about immigration has allowed Britain’s staggering immigration crisis to metastasize. And on whom does Phillips blame this calamitous silence? On Enoch Powell, whose “River Tiber flowing with much blood” speech about immigration in 1968 led to his removal from the Tory shadow cabinet and put the immigration issue off-limits.

Do you believe that? Because half the country of Britain has said for the last 40 years: “Thou shalt not criticize immigration,” and the other half of Britain like castrated sheep obeyed, this is the fault of the man who tried to discuss the issue, rather than the fault of the people who suppressed the debate and the people who submitted to that suppression! What a miserable, cowardly people the British are. People whose highest ethical idea is, “Thou shalt not make a fuss,” don’t deserve to live.

If there are Englishmen reading this who don’t like my description of them, then prove me wrong. Stand up and resist your oppressors. How many people gathered on the streets of London to mourn the death of Diana ten years ago? Get half that number, get an eighth of that number to demonstrate in London against your government’s immigration policies, and you’ll have some honor again.

Adela Gereth writes:

Here’s a link to Simon Heffer’s editorial and Powell’s speech.

And here’s an article by Paul Kingsnorth about the loss of the English national identity.

What I found so striking was that where the author lays most of the blame on the economics of greed, the readers’ comments concern mostly the same things we here at VFR descry: the failure of will to preserve English identity, the deliberate destruction of it by the left, the disastrous consequences of England’s racist immigration policy, etc.

The sense of loss and longing pervading so many of the comments was very poignant, I thought. Many who wrote seemed to feel it was all over, that this was not the beginning of a struggle to reclaim England for the English but the end of the England they’d known and loved, the end result of government policies beyond their ability to control or even influence.

LA replies:

There’s never been any movement (outside the BNP) to stop the Third-Worldization of Britain, and now they’re ready to give up, without having even fought. Miserable cowards.

As for the Kingsnorth article, it is not about immigration, multiculturalism, and so on, but about the physical disappearance of the defining features of the English countryside and village due to economic forces. A disturbing read.

Ron L. writes:

I read Bat Ye’or’s Eurabia in full this weekend, and, despite its constant repetition, it lays out a documented claim of an actual government-media-business conspiracy to Islamize Europe.

The British don’t stand up because they are lied to, and if people speak the truth or try to rally, they are arrested for “thought crimes” and hate.

LA replies:

Then they need to mount a national campaign—in the streets—to repeal the hate speech laws, which criminalize any honest discussion of the most vital issues facing Britain. But they have to do something. As they are now, they are sheep.
