Nifong

Can anyone explain to me why Michael Nifong only went to jail for one day? Isn’t it a serious crime for a government official to seek to try and imprison persons whom he knows are innocent, while concealing the evidence of their innocence? I can’t imagine a more terrible crime, since it is not just a crime by one person against another person, but the misuse by one person of all the power of the state against another person. Yet this monster served a mere token one-day sentence.
