Kaus: “Forget ‘comprehensive.’ Just give us the amnesty!”

Alarming news from Roll Call vis Mickey Kaus on a move by House Democrats for a scaled-down immigration proposal including a five-year visa for illegals along with some border strengthening measures. Kaus calls the package a “sort of mini-comprehensive open-faced sandwich.”

See also Kaus’s to-the-point critique of Ross Douthat’s dishonest NYT op-ed (also discussed by me here) in which Douthat spoke dismissively of conservatives’ problems with McCain while failing to mention their main problem with him, immigration. In my one phone conservation with Kaus, many years ago, he struck me as a good guy, and he strikes me as a good guy still.
