War within the Democratic party?

Mark A. writes:

I wonder how long before Barack and Michelle leak a story to the AP that a noose was “found” hanging on the front door of their campaign headquarters.

LA replies:

LOL. Have relations between the two Democratic camps declined to that point? Well, both Obama and Hillary know that they can be president. Both know that the winner of the nomination has a very good chance of being president. Both have a lot going for them in terms of their own talents, both feel in their bones that they’re ready and able to be president and both want very much to be president. Then there’s the fact that they are evenly matched in political strength and chance to win, sort of like Rome and Carthage at the start of the First Punic War. There’s also their two conflicting visions, Hillary with her endless government programs to provide people’s every need, Obama with the cult of his own transcendent unifying self; Hillary with the Clintonite corruption, Obama with his fresh and—excuse the word—clean image.

So all the elements are there for a very bitter fight.

Gosh, given the Democrats’ likely divisions, if the Republicans could only gather ‘round some transcendent unifying figure of their own, like John McCain, they’d have the election sown up.
