Baltimore paper looks forward to the wiping out of red-state America by global warming

Is this a joke, or is it for real? The Baltimore Chronicle and Sentinel has an article by Dave Lindorff saying it’s good news that much of the country will be inundated by rising sea levels resulting from global warming, because conservatives live in the areas that will be most affected. Lindorff writes:

Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining.

Look at a map of the US.

The future political map of America is likely to look a lot different, with much of the so-called “red” state region either gone or depopulated.

Before you get too upset, understand that the Chronicle and Sentinel is not a regular paper but a left-wing rag, as can be seen from the mission statement on its main page:

Why We Publish: Increasingly, so-called ‘American’ corporations have gained manipulative control over the mainstream news (a.k.a. “corporate media”), the political parties, and our local and national governments. They do it so corporate interests are served over the public’s interests, as Michael Moore’s documentary “SiCKO” shows so well. The Baltimore Chronicle seeks to aid U.S. Democracy by publishing important omitted or distorted facts and viewpoints to counter the manipulated mainstream news.

Further showing the paper’s political ideology, here is the lead article in today’s issue:

The Abraham Lincoln Brigade—A Profile in Courage, Honor and Hope
by Stephen Lendman

In their day, “Lincolns” were anti-facist [sic] freedom-fighters who are still respected by their admirers. Since the Reagan era, however, they’d be called “terrorists” because they oppose unfettered capitalism and all its harshness.

Ok, so this paper is written and published by Commies. The fact remains that these Commies, who are Americans and live in the United States and partake of its great benefits, enjoy the prospect of the physical destruction of the conservative half of America. If Stephen Pollard, who delights in the disappearance of the Christianity of the historically Christian society in which he lives, wrote for the British equivalent of the Baltimore Chronicle and Sentinel, instead of for the “conservative” Spectator and the “respectable” Times of London, I wouldn’t mind him quite so much. It’s the normalization of such hatred toward the majority culture that is truly unacceptable and dangerous.

Maybe it’s true that red states will be the ones to suffer most from rising oceans. I don’t know. But if it does occur, I know this: it will be the blue portions of the red states that take it on the chin. Miami? Houston-Galveston? New Orleans? The conservative parts of Florida, Texas and Louisiana are inland and northwards. It could be that rising oceans mainly serve to rid the country of “blue voters.” Meanwhile, New York City will surely suffer. Baltimore? DC? San Francisco? The people writing this stuff don’t even understand the ramifications of their own perverted fantasies.

James P. writes:

Lindorff writes in his article:

“Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes.”

So wait, the people in the Northeast will have the intelligence and ability to build dikes, but not anyone in the Red States, whose major cities are not even on the coasts anyway?

“Only in the northernmost area, around the Great Lakes (which will be not so great anymore), and along the Canadian border, will there still be enough rain for farming and continued large population concentrations.”

So the Northeast is self-sufficient in food, and does not in any way rely on food imports from the benighted Midwest and Great Plains that Lindorff gleefully assumes are doomed? I don’t think so!
