Do I contradict myself?

While no man of good will can be happy at the sight of a thuggish clown promoted to a place of intellectual eminence, at the sight of respected standards spat upon by the very people who once upheld them, is it not also somewhat contradictory of me to be outraged and sickened by John Podhoretz’s appointment? Haven’t I said many times that neoconservatism has become a dangerous ideology harmful to America? Don’t I want neoconservatism to lose its influence? Well, what better way for that to happen than for the man who calls himself J-Pod to become editor of the leading neoconservative magazine?

At the same time, it is impossible to feel good about something so bad, about an event that represents such a fall, not just for neoconservatism, but for our culture.
