Several days after I first heard them, the words, “John Podhoretz has been chosen to be editor of Commentary,” still produce a completely unreal feeling in me, as though someone had said, “Katie Couric has been nominated to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”
This event proves that what the critics of the Norman Podhoretz faction have been saying or suspecting all along—that they don’t care about America, that they don’t care about conservatism, that they’re just out for themselves, their clique, their in-group, their family—is true. Email entry |
