Anniversary of the Battle of Tours

And while they’re coming to take our country, and our “leaders” are eagerly handing it to them, let us remember a real leader, Charles “The Hammer” Martel, who on this day in the year 732 led his highly trained Frankish infantry phalanxes against the armed cavalry of the Arabs on the Loire and soundly defeated them, saving Europe, the West, and us. Here’s a brief discussion of the battle posted at VFR last year. And here is Wikipedia’s very interesting account of the battle and the ensuing campaign.

As pointed out in the previous entry, this year is the first time that the Empire State Building will be lit up in green to honor Islam. In the spirit of Charles Martel, let us work for the day when that will never happen again.

Thanks for reminding us of the Tours anniversary. I love this quotation in the Wikipedia article:

The Mozarabic Chronicle of 754 says: “And in the shock of the battle the men of the North seemed like a sea that cannot be moved. Firmly they stood, one close to another, forming as it were a bulwark of ice; and with great blows of their swords they hewed down the Arabs. Drawn up in a band around their chief, the people of the Austrasians carried all before them. Their tireless hands drove their swords down to the breasts of the foe.”
