Background of the Craig business

Between October 2006 and May 2007, the Idaho Statesman interviewed 300 people (that’s right, 300) on the burning question of … whether Sen. Larry Craig is homosexual. The investigation culminated in an interview with the senator in May. In an article published Tuesday following the Roll Call article on Monday, the Statesman explains that the investigation was set off by an accusation by a liberal blogger last October. Three hundred interviews into a public figure’s sex life? All on the basis of an accusation by a partisan opponent?

In any case, there was something there. In the May interview Craig strongly denied that he had ever engaged in or sought any homosexual activity. Yet the next month he was arrested in the Minneapolis airport restroom for soliciting homosexual sex, for which he pled guilty. So at the very least this man has a serious problem. After the extraordinary amount of attention that had been directed at his alleged sodomistic activities in washrooms, and after his stout denials thereof, he went right ahead and did the same thing.
