A Brit who loves American universalism and loathes America

Gerard Baker, who covers the U.S. for the Times of London, despises the American people for the greatest manifestation of true political freedom we have seen in this country in our life time, the grassroots campaign to stop the Bush-Kennedy immigration bill. Baker, who fancies himself a big supporter of democracy, in reality hankers for the days of the Stamp Act and the Declaratory Act, when unelected authorities would simply tell Americans what their laws were.
