Good sign in Senate

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, the fourth ranking Republican in the Senate, announced yesterday that she would not be voting to revive the immigration bill next week. Which means, I guess (newspaper articles never use precise language in discussing Senate procedure, forcing us to guess), that she will not be voting for the cloture resolution to limit debate and bring the bill to a vote. Since she is making such an announcement, one must assume that she had earlier been counted on by Senators Reid, McConnell, and Lott to be a pro-cloture vote when they reached their deal last week to revive the bill.
