The never-ceasing aliveness of Dylan

In the flood of articles here on the immigration bill in the last few weeks, I hope readers did not miss the piece,

“We’ll guard that border, after it’s gone; or, Bush admits the whole thing is a fraud.”

If you read it, you’ll see that the Dylan paraphrase in the title exactly describes what President Bush has been up to.

The fact that Dylan’s wackily paradoxical line, from his 1967 song “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,”

We’ll climb that bridge, after it’s gone
After we’re way past it

helps us 40 years later in understanding a politician’s rhetoric is pretty fantastic.
