This is all very confusing

This notice is posted at the Numbers USA site this afternoon:

(June 7) After debating one amendment this morning, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) moved to invoke cloture on the “grand bargain” substitute amendment to the underlying bill (S. 1348). That vote failed by a 33-63 margin. When Reid subsequently called for cloture on the underlying bill, that vote also failed—this time, by a 34-61 count. Because Reid voted “no” on cloture for the substitute amendment, Senate rules allow him to raise the cloture motion again. Reid will call for another cloture vote some time this evening. That cloture vote is KEY to defeating the bill.

Reid is quoted in a CongressDaily article today as saying that the bill is dead if the evening cloture vote fails. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Republicans are said to be insisting on at least another ten votes on amendments before they will agree to shut down debate.
