Beyond Eloihood

I don’t have the exact text in front of me, but among the belated e-mails sent out by the Virginia Tech administration to the campus community yesterday morning, the e-mail sent at 9:50 a.m. finally said that there was a gunman on campus. But of course the campus police knew hours earlier that there was a gunman on campus: there had been a double murder in a dorm at 7:15 a.m., no one knew who the gunman was, and his weapons were not left at the murder scene. Therefore there was an armed murderer at large who had just killed two people on campus, and who was very possibly still on the campus. Yet the authorities did not notify the university community of this fact.
