Amnesty is the wrong word—what Bush is seeking is worse than that

Whether people are pro-amnesty or against amnesty, or pro-amnesty and pretending not to be, all sides in the immigration debate have been using the word amnesty incorrectly. As I discuss in another entry, there really is no proper sense in which the word amnesty belongs in the discussion of illegal immigration in the U.S. However, on further consideration, it turns out that (at least in theory) amnesty is a possibility, in which case it is the restrictionists who should be the ones pushing it.
