Death by friendly fire in Iraq
Here is something worth reading more slowly and carefully than I have just done. It is the unofficial leaked transcript of American pilots in Iraq firing at what they think are armed enemy vehicles, which turn out to be a British convoy, and they kill a British soldier. The pilots sound intelligent and on top of their mission, repeatedly discussing the possibility that there are “friendlies” in this area and dismissing it. It’s a terrible event, and the transcript includes the pilots’ horrified discovery that they have fired on friendlies.
