Muslims returning to their ancestral faith. What’s at fault? British multiculturalism

A recent study in Britain showing that younger Muslims in Britain are far more oriented toward Islam and far more anti-Western than their immigrant parents has set off a big controversy. Displaying the usual Western incoherence and evasiveness about Islamic reality, a piece about the study in the Daily Mail says that the “doctrine of multi-culturalism has alienated an entire generation of young Muslims,” making them radical. But then the article continues:

“In stark contrast with their parents, growing numbers sympathise with extreme teachings of Islam, with almost four in ten wanting to live under Sharia law in Britain. The study identifies significant support for wearing the veil in public, Islamic schools and even punishment by death for Muslims who convert to another religion.”

Well, excuse me, but sharia, the veil, and death to converts doesn’t sound like “multiculturalism.” It sounds like Islam. Duh!

Westerners can never admit that there is anything problematic, objectionable, or unassimilable about a non-Western group. If there is a problem, it must be blamed on the West. Hence the conservative-leaning Mail tells us that these Muslims have been alienated by the British government’s policy of multiculturalism, not by the fact that they are Muslims who have grown up in a non-Muslim society in which they do not fit, and so they naturally feel alienated, an experience that makes them turn back with renewed interest to the faith of their ancestors. Whenever Islam rubs up against non-Islam, you are going to have jihad, as the night follows the day.
