The Surge, like every other previous U.S. initiative in Iraq, is based on false assumptions

In a must-read article at Parapundit, Randall Parker offers a coherent, informative critique of President Bush’s surge plan and why it won’t work. In a nutshell, Bush wants the Shia Iraqi government to be impartial as between the Shia and Sunni sectarian fighters, whereas what the Iraqi government wants is to help their fellow Shia defeat the Sunni. While Bush and his Brain are insisting that the Iraqi government has committed itself to the plan, several news articles point to its manifest lack of enthusiasm. It’s another instance of America’s attempt to impose on a foreign country America’s multicultural vision of society, in which all groups can and must get along as equals. As I wrote in my 1995 article, “Multicultural America, Multicultural World,” this multicultural principle prevents any conflict from being finally settled.
