Milestones

Yet, Bush said in a statement issued from his ranch in Texas, “it is an important milestone on Iraq’s course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain and defend itself, and be an ally in the war on terror.”

Ben writes:

Remember when the fall of Saddam’s statue was an important milestone?

Remember when the death of Saddam’s sons was an important milestone?

Remember when the capture of Saddam’s “Deck of Cards” was an important milestone?

Remember when the capture of Saddam himself was an important milestone?

Remember when the discovery of the weapons of mass destruction was an important milestone? (Whoops, scratch that.)

Remember when elections and purple thumbs was an important milestone?

Remember when the democratic revolution in Lebanon was an important milestone?

Remember when the election in Egypt was an important milestone?

Remember when the battle of Fallujah was an important milestone?

Remember when the approval of the constitution was an important milestone?

Remember when the forming of a government was an important milestone?

Remember when the killing of Zarqawi was an important milestone?

And now we can remember the death of Saddam as an important milestone according to George Bush.

However, through all these milestones, one constant has remained, with each passing day in Iraq they are slaughtering each other more and more as Shiite Islamic fundamentalists gain more and more power. Yet regardless of this truth, George Bush in his amazing wisdom thinks this country will become a “democracy and an important ally in the war on terror.”

A real milestone would be for Jorge Arbusto to read Sayyid Qutb’s book, Milestones, so that he might conceive the nature of our enemy.
