Jeane Kirkpatrick

Speaking of neoconservatives, the New York Times has a fair and informative obituary of Jeane Kirkpatrick. She will be remembered with admiration for standing up for America at the United Nations (by the way, why is it so often women, more than men, who are unintimidated by liberals?), and for her great speech at the 1984 Republican convention with its refrain about the Democrats, “they always blame America first.” At the moment, the America that produced a strong character like Jeane Kirkpatrick seems like a thing of the past, but I believe America can come back.
