Europe also getting “richer”

Dutch blogger “Snouck Hurgronje” sends me this from his site:

Istanbul Cultural Capital of Europe

Zaman (Time) has more news: “The European Commission has approved a jury recommendation declaring Istanbul as the cultural capital of Europe for 2010.”

According to Wikipedia:

“The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the European Union for a period of one year, during which it is given a chance to showcase its cultural life and cultural development.”

Visitors to Istanbul may also visit the famous Fatih mosque in Istabul. This Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Mehmet II to commemorate the victory over Orthodox Greek Christianity and the capturing of Constantinople for Islam.

“Fatih” is also a choice name that Turks in Europe give to their firstborn son, after marrying and converting a Christian wife.

“Fatih” means victory.
