Pope didn’t say “sorry”

As I’ve pointed out over and over, even if the pope said “sorry,” it wasn’t an apology because it’s nonsensical to say you’re sorry for what others are feeling or doing. However, the non-apology apology still made him look insincere. Now it turns out that he didn’t say sorry. According to Daniel Pipes, the Vatican mistranslated the pope’s statement as “I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address,” when what he said in Italian was “sono rammaricato,” which translates as “I am disappointed” or “I regret.”

I understand the media misrepresenting the pope’s words. But the Vatican? What’s going on here?

Pipes also says: “Benedict has offered elusive comments, brief statements, and now this delphic quotation, but he has not provided a much-needed major statement on this vital topic of Islam. One hopes it is in the offing.” Yeah.
