Mash notes at NRO

A reader writes:

Another little bit of that “girly-boy” mentality. At NRO’s Phi Beta Cons, John Miller announces a “mash note” he has written to The New Criterion, having its 25th anniversary. Isn’t the idea of a mash note a little adolescent?

This may be a good time to point out that when I speak of “the boys at NRO,” that is NOT meant to be code for “girly-boys.” I would never use or imply such an insult, and if I did intend to insult people I would do it directly, not by innuendo. I simply mean boys in the normal meanings of the word.
