Qana and Cana

It’s been a couple of days since I posted the blog entry with the title, “Qana of Lebanon, where Hezbollah made lies truth.” The title is a play of words on a biblical passage that I was hoping readers would pick up on, but no one has said anything about it to me so far, and even a literary friend to whom I pointed it out still didn’t get it, so maybe it was too obscure.

The passage is from John 4:46 in the King James Version: “So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine.” I changed “Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine,” into “Qana of Lebanon, where Hezbollah made lies truth.” It was a parallelism ironically reversing the original: instead of Jesus miraculously producing wine out of water, Hezbollah evilly manufacturing lies that appear to be truth.

Also, since Qana is only seven miles from the Israeli border, I suppose it’s not impossible that Qana is the biblical Cana.
