Back to the drawing board

I posted an article Saturday called “Some thoughts on the spiritual and political order of the Dark Ages,” which, when I was drafting it, I thought was interesting, but, I realized after I had posted it, was the kind of article that many successful columnists and reporters write all the time but that I can’t stand: a series of loosely connected facts and ideas with no particular shape or coherence. Once I realized there was no way to salvage the piece in its present form, I took it offline.
