Homer’s Olympus

The epigraph for Rick Darby’s Reflecting Light blog is a beautiful verse from the Odyssey, Book VI, lines 42-45, in Richmond Lattimore’s translation. Mr. Darby says that he had already chosen “Reflecting Light” as the title for the blog and was just starting it up, when he happened to be reading the Odyssey and these lines leaped out at him:

… Olympos, where the abode of the gods stands firm and unmoving
forever, they say, and is not shaken with winds nor spattered
with rains, nor does the snow pile ever there, but the shining bright air
stretches cloudless away, and the white light glances upon it.
