Is Morris sincere in pushing Rice?

The frequently interesting but also frequently unsound Dick Morris was interviewed at FrontPage Magazine on Thursday expanding on his thesis that Condoleezza Rice (known in these parts as Bush’s twin brain) is the only candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton in 2008 and so block Hillary’s lifelong project of turning America into a European-style socialist country. A VFR reader doubts Morris’s bona fides in this endeavor:
I don’t know why FrontPage even gives Dick Morris the time of day, let alone gives him an interview. (It’s there today, I didn’t read it.) It seems obvious to me that he’s criticized the Clintons just enough to gain some credibility on the right in order that they might listen to his proddings to nominate Condi as the Republican candidate and thereby remove Hillary’s biggest obstacle, which is defeating a man. Not that I believe he will be successful in this undertaking, it’s just annoying to see the number of people suckered by this slickster.

It’s a provocative thesis, but after being piqued by it, I’m not sure I agree. Morris has been so hostile to both Clintons, especially Madame, for the last several years that it is hard to believe he is doing all this as part of a deep game to get Hillary elected. I think what is objectionable about Morris, apart from his being a liberal, is not that he is dishonest but that he is a man of “notions.” There is nothing stable about him. He gets a brain storm about where American politics is headed and what must be done to take advantage of this, but then a few weeks later he gets a different brain storm that contradicts the first and he never notices the contradiction—and neither does anyone else. I think his Condi-is-the-only-Republican-who-can-defeat-Hillary kick is such a brainstorm.
