Female tv president, Dylan documentary

According to a preview by Kay McFadden, tv critic of the Seattle Times, “Commander-in-Chief,” premiering tomorrow night, is rather long on gyno-consciousness: “Who knew that when a woman finally reached for the presidential brass ring, the prime motivator would be a menopause joke?” I’ve also wondered about the photos I’ve seen of the show’s star, Geena Davis, in which she looks like an over-rouged Barbie doll. Not presidential.

Also on the tv front, I’ll be watching the first part of Martin Scorsese’s Bob Dylan documentary tonight. I look forward to seeing Dylan performances from the Sixties that I’ve never seen. I’m not looking forward to seeing Scorsese’s present-day interview with Dylan, who, to put it bluntly, has been something of a freak for the last twenty years. (I have literally not listened to a single new Dylan recording since his “Empire Burlesque” album in 1984.)
