A Tory with (gasp!) some life in him

While criticizing the shadow Home Secretary David Davis for his not worthless but still inadequate article in the Telegraph, I have been remiss in not praising shadow Defense Minister Gerald Howarth for his very bracing comment, reported in the Scotsman, that extremist British Muslims should leave Britain. “If they don’t like our way of life, there is a simple remedy: go to another country, get out,” he said. Asked what if these people were born in Britain, he replied: “Tough. If you don’t give allegiance to this country, then leave.”

This is the kind of reaction that NORMAL people would have to hate-filled jihadist Muslims in their country, the kind of reaction that has been leached out of Western people, and that, we hope, is returning. If the peoples and leaders of the Western democracies had had maintained such NORMAL understandings and feelings in the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, we never would have gotten into the horrible fix in which we now find ourselves.

(The Scotsman requires registration but is well worth it; the paper has had some of the best reporting coming out of the UK recently.)
