Liberals in hell (“conservatives,” this includes you)

This past week has been one of the major turning points in recent history. Now our Moslem enemies are mass murdering us up close and personal from within Western cities, and nothing has changed. There’s still almost no awareness that we face an enemy whom we ourselves have permitted into our countries and who intends our destruction. The more manifest the Islamic threat, the deeper the Western denial, and the more sentimental Westerners wax about not “excluding” anybody, not “dividing” one group from another, not blaming Moslems for anything. Thus London’s leftist mayor announced a memorial event planned for July 14: “At 6pm Londoners are invited to a vigil in Trafalgar Square to remember those who died, to show that London will not be moved”—from Britain’s goal of fighting and defeating the jihadist enemy? No!—“from our city’s goal of building an open, tolerant, multi-racial and multi-cultural society …” Presumably Londoners will heed their mayor’s call. I’m almost ready to give up on Western people and say they simply deserve to be destroyed. Maybe after they’re destroyed they’ll reconstitute themselves as something viable again. I see no real hope of Western revival short of such a catastrophe. The West as currently constituted is its liberalism. So how, short of being destroyed, can it give up its liberalism? Its liberalism is what it is. It’s like the souls in Dante’s Inferno. They are at one with their sin, they have no objective awareness of their sin as sin, they just keep committing their sin over and over, even as they’re in hell being punished for it! It’s the same with the West and its suicidal liberalism.

But later this week, as the people of London are trooping obediently to the multicultural vigil, maybe someone in the throng will recall these lines:

Unreal City …
A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many,
I had not thought death had undone so many.
