More on Steyn’s weird role-playing

VFR reader Scott in Pennsylvania helpfully sends this:

I thought Mark Steyn was indeed gay based on this rather frank admission (assuming he’s not being ironic) in one of his columns from last August:

I said a couple of weeks back that John Kerry was too strange to be President, and a week or two earlier that he was too stuck-up to be President. Since I’m on an alliterative roll, let me add that he’s too stupid to be President. What sort of idiot would make the centrepiece of his presidential campaign four months of proud service in a war he’s best known for opposing?

I wouldn’t stand for Parliament on a family values platform because I know someone’s bound to bring up the 123 gay porn movies I had a bit part in back in Amsterdam in the 1970s.

But then you say he’s married with children. So, I guess his orientation is “ambiguous.”

Now it’s clear Steyn is being ironic. First, the extremity of the story (123 gay porn movies!) makes it unbelievable on its face; second, Steyn does not to appear to be old enough to have acted in porn movies in the ’70s. So he’s playing with the idea that he’s homosexual rather than telling us that he is. But again, why would he keep gratuitously doing this unless he were in fact homosexual? What kind of straight man keeps dropping hints that he’s gay?
