The cost of democratization

I wrote at FrontPage Magazine in fall 2002 that we needed to topple the Hussein regime for reasons of national defense, but that we shouldn’t turn that into a crusade to democratize Iraq and other Moslem countries.

A sad fact occurs: The invasion of Iraq and destruction of the Hussein regime cost about 100 American lives. The subsequent attempt to reconstruct and democratize Iraq has cost 1,500 American lives, with thousands more wounded and maimed.
