Catholics and Anglicans may both opt for smaller, more devout membership

In light of the increasing secularization of Europe and the failure of Pope John Paul II to reverse it with his Vatican II-style outreach to secularists, Pope Benedict XVI reportedly thinks that a smaller Catholic Church devoted to true Christianity would be better than a larger Church that compromises itself through its constant efforts to include nominal Christians who are in fact secular liberals.

The converse development seems to be occurring in the Anglican and Episcopal church. In light of the church’s shrinking membership as it becomes ever more secular and liberal, its leadership seems to have decided that a smaller Anglican/Episcopal church devoted to true secular liberalism would be better than a church that compromises itself through its constant efforts to hold on to believing Christians.
