Surprise! There are Catholics to the right of JPII

Finally, a mainstream commentator—Hugh Hewitt writing in the Weekly Standard—has acknowledged that there are some people who regard the already almost sainted John Paul II not as a great Catholic traditionalist and foe of secular modernity, but as, in key respects, a man of the left, as expressed in the secularizing spirit of Vatican II of which John Paul II was a champion. Unfortunately, beyond mentioning the existence of these traditionalist Catholic groups, Hewitt has nothing to say about them, except that they want the Old Mass back.
