Judge had requested extra security

Here are more details on the Atlanta courthouse killer Brian Nichols, including: the fact that the slain judge had regarded Nichols as a threat and had requested extra security because of the weapons Nichols had been found with two days earlier; and the fact that Nichols overpowered the female deputy when his hands were free as he was changing into civilian attire for the courtroom appearance. That means that as he was changing clothes, and thus had his manacles removed, he was being supervised by only a single, female, deputy, who, according to this story, is “a 51-year-old grandmother who is about 5 feet tall.”
