Dan Rather’s victimological salute to America and the world

The farewell statement of Dan Rather was bizarre, yet appropriate. He signed off, not in the manner of a newsman, but in the manner of a fallen leader, bloody but defiantly unbowed, urging “courage” to all the victims in the world (including the American people, “still nursing a broken heart for what happened here in 2001”), with whom he manfully expressed his solidarity. Jonah Goldberg quotes the goodby in full and comments on it in a way I agree with, including his mention of Rather’s Nixonian manner. (Goldberg’s articles can be readable, when he keeps his personality out of them.)
