The essential leftist

In an e-mail discussion, a rightist wrote:

On all questions except economics, the Republican Party today is to the left of where Lenin was the night the Winter Palace was stormed.

To which a leftist replied:

Leftists don’t think that way: “We’ve achieved 90% of what we historically wanted so stick a fork in it—it’s done.” If we did, we’d be conservatives. We only think in terms of what remains to be done.
