Progress report

VFR is coming back, bit by bit. Yesterday, after numerous snags and minor and major accidents, and with much indispensable assistance from Jim Kalb, who created VFR in the first place, I completed the uploading of the MovableType version 3.1 files and successfully ran the upgrade on the newly installed files. Technically, the site now works again, as you can see from this entry, but not all features are up and running. In particular, comments will remain disabled for the time being, as I still have to install an updated version of the comment spam-blocking software, MovableType Blacklist.

The new version of MT allows the editor to display and delete recent comments en masse, which enabled me to delete the comment spam that occurred on November 25. As it turned out, there were 352 comments advertising the sex-aid product called “soma” that were posted to this site within a few minutes. That’s what overloaded the site’s capabilities and caused the web hosting service to shut VFR down.
