Election proves Mencken wrong

This quote about the election is a bit late, but I still like it:

H. L. Mencken said that no one ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American people. Well, George Soros, Barbra Streisand and a lot of their friends just did.

[Mark Steyn, “Condescending Dems still don’t get it,” Chicago Sun-Times, 11/7/04.]

Have any of you actually visited Streisand’s weird pink and black web site? I sent the link around a week or so ago to my friends as a bit of humor and it got a huge laugh. You have to see this thing to believe it. Go here:

In this latest election, the people of the United States did not have a choice sufficient to exercise much in the way of intelligence where the two major parties were concerned. I understood (sort of) why (the last gasp of) a conservative leaning populace cast their votes for Mr. Bush, but was it really “intelligent” to do so? Of two evils, choose neither.

I wish I had done what I initially planned and abstained from voting. I think my loathing/fear of Kerry clouded my judgement. I wasted my time anyway in light of the fact New York had zero chance to go to Bush. More importanly, Bush opposes my position on immigration which to me is as or MORE, urgent than Iraq.
