Post endorses Kerry

My prediction, going back to last winter, that the Washington Post would decline to endorse Kerry because of his weaknesses on foreign policy and national defense, just as they had declined to endorse Dukakis, has turned out to be wrong, but only barely. In a long, ambivalent editorial that reads more like a conversation with oneself than a political endorsement, the Post finds much to praise in Bush, and much to criticize in Kerry, but finally, on balance, comes down on Kerry’s side. This must be the most low-key endorsement for a presidential candidate ever to appear in a national paper.
